Moore & Bruce, LLP advises artists and those that deal
with artists. Artists include performing artists (singers,
song writers, actors), film producers, authors, recording
engineers, and others.
We are known for our work on various forms of international
arrangements and cross-border transactions.
Often we advise the artist on related subjects, such as,
immigration, taxation and estate planning.
Recent engagements have dealt with:
- Sale of library of songs (self-created musical
works) under section 1221(b)(3) of the Internal Revenue
Code so as to claim the 15% capital gains rate.
- Advice to non-U.S. author selling film rights to a
major U.S. studio and rendering services outside the U.S. in
the preparation of the screenplay.
- Advice to U.S. singer/song-writer living in London and
Italy on tax, immigration and estate planning issues.
- On-going advice to film producer as to structuring
of business and individual films shot in U.K., France,
Canada, U.S., and China.
- Advice to a Canadian audio engineer responsible for
engineering the recordings of a renowned singer.
Moore & Bruce, LLP also advises purchasers of
paintings and sculpture. For example, we recently helped
negotiate and complete the purchase of a notable
painting from a gallery in London. In this connection,
we retained on behalf of the client art consultants.
