Almost on a daily basis we work with other advisors
across the US and around the world. More often than not
these are other legal advisors, but they can also be firms
of accountants, administrators of companies, trusts and
family offices, or investment advisors.
A few example are: a Bermuda-based trust company that is
considering redoing the accounts of all its clients that
have nongrantor trusts with US beneficiaries; a Zurich-based
shared family office operation; a Canadian law firm with US
and Canadian clients with US connections; a French legal
firm with French and Middle Eastern clients with US
connections.
Some instances amount to a referral of a matter to us,
others to a referral by us to a firm or individual, still
others to a form of cooperation on the project. Broadly
speaking, most matters are pursued on a cooperative basis.
Also, in general, Moore & Bruce, LLP is an exporter of work.
This last point follows from the fact that such a large
number of transactions and structures “touch down” in the
US. Many projects entail an investment in the US, or a
sourcing of funds from the US, or an application, whether
desired or not, of US law, or the involvement of US citizens
or resident aliens, or “US-style documentation”, or some
other form of contact with or reference to the US.
Over the years we have had the pleasure of working with a
number of other advisors.
Some of these relationships date back many years. Each year
the list grows.
We do not involve another advisor for any reason other than
we think that that involvement will serve the best interests
of the client. If the client is well-served and happy with
the outcomes, our interests have been furthered.
We do not belong to any alliance that requires us to “send”
work to other members. Nor do we exchange work back and
forth with another firm as a means of promotion.
We have developed over time what we consider to be very
reliable, very efficient means of collaborating on matters.
These include simplified tools for sharing information. But
we also emphasize close contacts in person and over the
telephone. Other advisors have access to special sections of
this website.
