Moore & Bruce, LLP advises a range of institutional
clients including funds (private equity funds, real estate
funds, funds directed at a country or region, hedge funds), charities, museums, art galleries,
governments, and non-governmental organizations. We render
advice on all the issues that arise for these institutions,
including contracts, taxation and employment issues.
We advise governments. For example, we advised a foreign
government, through its Embassy in Washington, D.C., as to the
U.S. estate taxation of a well-known poet's legacy that, it was
hoped, would return to the foreign country. The estate's
and the foreign recipients' goals were achieved in full. In one of our more unique representations, we advised a
southeast European government with respect to the
establishment of a representative office in Washington, D.C.,
before that government was officially recognized by the
United States. We helped it acquire a property, which is now
its chancery. We also helped the individuals working in this
office with a multiplicity of immigration and reporting
issues.
Regarding international charities, we have helped organize
them in the U.S. and in locations such as Bermuda, Barbados
and Jersey, Channel Islands. Where desired, we have obtained
IRS determination letters (recognizing their tax exempt
status). Our attorneys sit on the Board of several such
entities.
