insurance taxation; tax planning in connection with corporate
organizations, sales and acquisitions; tax controversy work; advocacy of
public policy issues; tax legislative and regulatory matters for
property-casualty, life and reinsurance firms; federal insurance
legislation.
Education: Brenda Viehe-Naess is a graduate of Wellesley College
and Vanderbilt University Law School; awarded US Law Week prize for
scholastic achievement in her third year.
Admissions to Practice: Ms. Viehe-Naess is a member of the bars
of the District of Columbia and New York.
Experience: Partner, Hopkins & Sutter and other national law
firms in Washington, D.C. She served as Deputy Commissioner (Chief
Counsel) of the Massachusetts Division of Insurance, where she
supervised the Law Department and Consumer Protection Division. As Tax
Counsel of the American Insurance Association, she represented major
insurance companies on all regulatory and legislative issues before the
IRS National Office, Treasury and the Congress.
Other Activities: Federal Bar Association Insurance Tax Seminar
(Advisory Council); Organization on Multi-National Insurance Taxation
(Steering Committee); Private Sector Co-Chair of the Tax Coalition, an
organization of tax professionals working on public policy issues
(2006).
